Sifnos Trails

DIY

Sifnos is a small Greek island in the Cyclades (pronounced keeklaades), a region of islands known for their pristine white buildings and abundance of minerals. Sifnos has seven villages connected by a central pedestrian walkway which branches out into smaller paths, making it the perfect island for a walking holiday. The paths are well maintained and marked, the island is known for its cuisine, lodging is inexpensive and you can eat on the beach and swim on almost any path you choose. We walked these trails in 2018 and planned everything ourselves using the Sifnos Trails site. It ranks in our top 3 favorite trips and earns our Trusted Walks badge.

Review of Sifnos Trails Website

The Sifnos Trails network was designed by an agency called Paths for Greece, which works with local communities and their tourism and government agencies to create, promote and manage trail systems throughout Greece. Our review only covers the Sifnos Trails site, but if you want to know more about new trails being developed we encourage you to follow Paths for Greece on Facebook or Instagram.

You will find almost everything you need on the Sifnos Trails site to plan your own walking holiday, including detailed walking notes for each route and an excellent trail app. If you don’t have time to walk all the paths, you can narrow your selection by categories: coastal, easy, kid-friendly, swim and more. The site also provides a list of taxi drivers and their phone numbers, which we HIGHLY recommend you print or save to your phone. Unless they’ve improved, we don’t recommend the Sifnos buses because they are not reliable. Sifnos attracts a multinational audience so trail notes are translated in several languages. The only important item you won’t find on the Sifnos Trails site is lodging, but that can easily be found at Slow Sifnos or by using Airbnb, Booking.com or similar sites.

Route Types

  • Center-based

Note: you can make this an inn to inn hiking trip, but for the sake of cost and convenience we recommend choosing a central location and hiking out from there. Apollonia is a great choice unless you want to be directly on the water.
