Prince Edward Island Walk

DIY, Self-guided

New to the scene, The Island Walk is a 435 mile inn to inn hiking trail that circumnavigates Canada’s Prince Edward Island (PEI). Famous for its seafood and its place in the hearts of all Anne of Green Gables fans, Prince Edward Island now has something else to boast about with this beautifully designed walk. It takes about 32 days to complete if you walk an average of 12 to 15 miles each day. Most of the route intertwines with the Confederation Trail, a bilingual (French and English) interpretive trail that follows an old railway line. Traversing through multiple terrains and connecting cities with small towns, we think The Island Walk makes an excellent walking holiday in North America.

Review of Prince Edward Island Walk Website

The Island Walk is a nonprofit whose board members are made up of local tour operators, accommodation owners and people who have walked the trail. This devoted crew has created a beautifully designed site that has everything you need to plan a PEI walking holiday. We love how easy they’ve made it to DIY, providing all the necessary details in an easy to search format. On their site you will find trail maps, trail and signage notes, direct links to accommodations and transportation, places to get food and suggested itineraries. We are especially impressed with the details they include for accommodations, which tell you if the lodging offers transportation, packed lunches and supper on site or nearby. On behalf of all DIY walking holiday enthusiasts, we salute you!

If you’re serious about planning your own trip, we suggest starting with The Island Walk’s blog, registering for their private Facebook Group, and reading Robert Bradt’s blog posts.
