Walk Japan

Guided, Self-guided

Walk Japan was co-founded by American and English professors based in Hong Kong who wanted to create tours for people who love walking and learning about other cultures. They succeeded and are now one of the premier tour companies offering self-guided and guided walking holidays throughout Japan. Their routes include Nakasendo, Basho, Kiso, Kumano, Tokaido, Kunasaki and Shikoku. They offer similar itineraries and pricing to Oku Japan but Walk Japan offers a larger selection of guided trips. For this reason, Walk Japan earns our Local Choice for guided walking holidays in Japan.

Review of Walk Japan Website

Walk Japan’s site is easy to navigate and is full of information. Their section on Etiquette is invaluable so make sure to read it before booking a trip. They provide all the important walk details (including daily elevation) but very few details on lodging. Our favorite feature, however, is the sample booklet provided with each self-guided trip description. Very few companies do this and it’s always a good idea to show clients what their guidebook will look like.
