Caminhos de Fátima

DIY

Caminhos de Fátima is the official site for two lesser known Portuguese inn to inn hiking routes, the Rota Carmelita and Caminho do Centenário which both end in the city of Fátima. Since 1917, when the story of Our Lady of Fátima began, this city has become a major destination which sees millions of visitors each year. The countryside surrounding Fátima and its basilicas has its own appeal, and these walks allow you to fully immerse yourself in the Fátima experience.

Review of Caminhos de Fátima Website

In case you’re wondering when you see the phrase peregrine support, peregrine is another term for pilgrim. Everything is here for you to plan your own inn to inn hiking trip. For the best info, download the Guia and Folheto (found under Documents).

Caminhos de Fátima’s site provides the following info along both routes:

  • Notes about each town and links to their official sites
  • Support and reception points
  • Where to eat
  • Where to sleep
  • What to visit
  • Police stations and pharmacies/hospitals
  • Detailed daily walking notes with miles, elevation charts and historical notes
  • Printable maps and GPS or KML files

If you prefer to have someone else plan this trip for you, we suggest Portugal A2Z for the Rota Carmelita route or Portugal Green Walks which offers both routes. If you are interested in alternate routes to Fátima, visit caminhosdefatima.org which covers the Nazaré, Targus and Northern Routes.
