Undiscovered Montenegro is a small tour operator based in Montenegro where owners Emma and Ben Heywood offer guided adventures from their villa on Lake Skadar. These UK transplants fully embrace living in the Balkans and have been steadily adding local guides and adventure tours in neighboring countries. Their current walking holidays include Albania and Montenegro, with plans to add Kosovo and Bosnia. Their true specialty, however, is combining hikes with multi-sport activities such as yoga, kayaking, skiing, snowshoeing, rafting and mule trekking.

For the purpose of this review we are covering Undiscovered Montenegro’s newer site, Undiscovered Balkans, because it includes all of their tours. It’s a great site, containing an excellent About Us page that introduces you to the owners and local guides and explaining in detail how they practice responsible travel. Click on their “Villa Miela” link on the About Us page to see a full description of their hiking retreat.
You can search by country or by activity type. We recommend choosing their Multi Activity Holidays because you’ll find the winter hiking there as well as the walking holidays. Each tour includes excellent photos, videos and terrain details. They list accommodations by name and include photos but no links so you’ll need to do a little work to get more details. Expect mountain bungalows with shared bathrooms for parts of the trip.
